Design Unity and Korman Woodworks have introduced a line of contemporary furniture in the very unique organic and/or prairie style. Thomas H. Olson and Merle H. Sykora, ASID, are partners in the firm Design Unity, Inc. specializing in residential design and interior design. Tom and Merle create a complete organic design, starting with the site, the home and continuing through the furniture, art pieces, and color design.

Tom Olson apprenticed with the acknowledged master of the organic style for 9 years (’52-’61). While there he worked with the master as well as supervised the construction of two of his homes (Boswell and Ablin residences). Tom has been recognized as an accomplished award-winning designer.

Merle Sykora is a Professor Emeritus, Art at St. Cloud State University. He taught weaving, color theory, and interior design.

Peter Korman, owner of Korman Woodworks, is a former apprentice (’88). Korman Woodworks has been building Design Unity, Inc. designed furniture as well as doing restoration work in some of the master’s buildings. Peter Korman is a designer himself, as well as a builder. While working with Design Unity, Inc. he has realized there is a need for high quality, custom built furniture for owners of organic and/or prairie style architecture.

Korman Woodworks is also interested in working with designers, architects, and interior designers of organic or prairie school influenced architecture, alternative architecture, and contemporary architecture to help bring these ideas and forms to life.

As an organic designer himself, he knows the importance of working with the designer to perfect the details. Korman Woodworks will work with the architect or designer through the research and development phase so the piece accurately reflects the vision of the designer. No matter how unusual the design, no matter if it is one piece or a hundred, or a complete line of furniture, we would like to work with you to create your ideas and bring them into three-dimensional form.
